You have a good assortment of EZ extensions, so if Tap-To-Find isn't working, then probably electronic drums. Obviously, the topic has switched from mixing and audio to timing and midi. I know I use Steinbergs Logical Editor in combination with Metagrid and Luke Johnsons Logical Editor command presets for speed and workflow, but if you are a drummer, the alternative route could be much better and simpler. And with round-robbin, I'm not sure why it would be machine-gun.Įven with Tap-To-Find, I think most users do substantial post editing to achieve the feel unless you are after a quick demo. All the Toontrack midi to my knowledge is recorded by real musicians, one of them, Chris Whitten is a career drummer who recorded Toontracks Custom and Vintage and participates here quite often, so I'm not sure why any EZX or SDX midi would sound mechanical. Cheers.Obviously, the topic has switched from mixing and audio to timing and midi. I guess I could high pass the OH channel quite a lot and THEN get to work on the kick, snare, toms channels. Anyway.the issue I've noticed is multi out into DAW.largely pointless because the OH or the Compressed channel or the Ambient channel is where most the sound comes from. I would like to hear other users response regarding midi drums. In the above review, that is the biggest red flag to me, but he doesn't go into detail about midi gaps. Of course, once recorded with a keyboard controller, you can go back and edit for exact midi, but initially, you're stuck gaps.īut again, I'm not a drummer so how important this is, I don't know. You can test this yourself using a velocity tool built for Kontakt. The velocity will either default to the 98-110 group or the 120-127 group. No matter how hard you try when recording, you will never achieve a midi hit of anywhere between 111-119. In reality.at least to my knowledge in the keyboard controller world and probably electronic drums, you get limited gaps that hopefully the manufacturer hopes you won't notice. In a perfect world, you want total velocity midi options of 1-127.

Initially, I always wondered why my piano playing on a Studio Logic with full hammer action, was slightly "off" but could never understand why until someone explained velocity gaps. Again, I'm not a drummer, but I purchased a expensive keyboard controller years ago that had the most horrible velocity gaps. My biggest red flag here is the limited velocity, or what I call velocity gaps. I fear if I headed in that direction this entry level kit, at Alto for $300 would only be a starter point as you said.

I can see my self moving up realively quickly but the cost of entry isn't terrible.I'm not a drummer. The Alesis Nitro is a really good start if you're looking at mesh heads.
